intellij idea asciidoc plugin - what's next?

tomek kaczanowski
Hi All!

Recently I have discovered that there is a plugin for Intellij which helps to write AsciiDoc files using this IDE. It is already very useful, however lacking some features. I wanted to ask you if there are any plans for enhancing it?

I'm not sure who's behind it, to my knowledge, it isn't Dan, Alex, or myself. Anyone else want to claim it?

Julien Viet started the project. To my knowledge, he still uses it for writing the docs for CRaSH {1}.

I was helping with the plugin a bit. I stopped, however, because I got frustrated with the grossly deficient HTML renderer in Swing. Using it is reminiscent of writing web pages back in 1999 (queue the Prince music). I'd only seriously recommend this plugin if the Swing HTML renderer could be swapped out for the new WebKit-based renderer in Java. Then, we can actually get some decent styling of the HTML.

If you are interested in hacking on the plugin, by all means go for it. I'm sure it will be a very popular plugin, especially if you can figure out how to use WebKit in the web view.

Cheers,

Dan, thank you for making things clear.

No, I do not plan to work on the plugin. I only wanted to know if
there are any plans to enhance it. If not, then I think I will go with
https://github.com/rahmanusta/AsciidocFX (even though I would be very
happy not to leave my IDE to write Asciidoc documentation!)

Sure thing!

Perhaps AsciidocFX will one day provide the foundation for the IntelliJ plugin to provide the upgrade I mentioned.

Cheers,

-Dan
