The situation has definitely changed (probably from pressure from organizations that have recently adopted it). That didn't used to be the case. It's something we'll need to reconsider when we discuss it. I'm still more in favor of a real mailinglist, but if it can act like one and still be a web forum, we'll need to consider that too.
