I'm wondering how I might tackle the following situation, and would value advice and particularly pointers to reference resources...

I have discovered a bilingual recipe book - English and German - and would like to see if I can digitise it. My current idea is that each recipe in each language should be a single file, and then I'd like to stitch them together into a book-sized collection, with a left-column in one language and a right column in parallel in the other...

That way I could easily reassemble the components into a single language edition, or the full work as I have it...
