Ah, yes, that prerequisite is a result of the upgrade to Gradle 4. We should probably state that minimum requirement in the README. I'll make that update today.

I managed to figure out the problem. I was using Java version 7. Somehow, that's causing the exception. After I change to version 8, it is working fine now.

And thank you for making asciidoctor. It is a very nice and valuable program.
