numbered list

How to create numbered list without period?
For e.g. current numbered list look like following
1. <text>
2. <text>

I want
1 <text>
2 <text>

Is this possible?

The period is added by the browser, so no.

There's a CSS mechanism for defining a custom counter on a numbered list in the works, but it's still experimental in most browsers. See https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/list-style-type

I am actually generating pdf and not html.

PDF retains visual consistency with the HTML (esp regarding list markeres). So since it's not possible in HTML, we don't make it possible in PDF either.
