Why not single-quote expansion on positional-attribute values?

Andrew Carver
Hi folks,

I'm a newbie to AsciiDoc and AsciiDoctor; so I hope this is not just a well-trodden path...

I've a question that stems from something that AsciiDoc could apparently do: it supported single-quote expansion in positional attributes' values, as well as in "named" attributes', in an attribute list (http://asciidoc.org/asciidoc.css-embedded.html#_attribute_value_substitution). That seems like something that would be very commonly useful (e.g. see the illustration that section uses).

AsciiDoctor supports this only in named attributes, according to my limited experience, and as suggested in http://asciidoctor.org/docs/user-manual/#named-attribute.

So:
- Have I missed some important, relevant point?
- Is there a workaround, for getting various expansions inside positional attributes?
- Is there a possibility of a upgrade, at some point?

Many thanks!

Andrew

I tested the example given (the Johnson quote), and it worked exactly as expected. Can you give an example that doesn't work?

Woops! I thought I could, but guess I can't  Sorry for the red herring!!

I appreciate the correction--and am quite glad to be corrected, in this regard ;) Thanks!
