The response from the program:

Thank you for applying to be a Google Summer of Code 2016 mentor organization. Sadly, we were unable to accept Asciidoctor this year. We had many more applications than we had available slots this year but we do hope you will apply again in the future.

But we've put our name on the map, so that's the first step. I think we can do a better job with the ideas list for next year, because there is certainly no shortage of great ideas for how to enhance the Asciidoctor ecosystem.

Let's keep up the great work of making technical documentation awesome!

Cheers,

-Dan

I just submitted an application for the Asciidoctor organization to take part in Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2016.

There's no guarantee we'll get accepted. However, if we do get accepted, I'll be looking for a few people who are interested in serving as mentors and, of course, students. If you are a student and want to participate, or know one, please get in touch by replying to this message. It truly is a great experience, and will be even better given the strength of this community.

GSoC is a great way to get more people involved in the project while at the same time helping students to begin (or continue) building their careers. It's also a great opportunity for us to further define ourselves as a leading organization in open source.

I'll let you all know if we get accepted.

Cheers,

-Dan
