Lists max nesting level?

nagim
Hi,

According to the docs, I can have lists up to five levels of nesting.
However, when writing documentation that required more levels, I discovered that I can have more (sorry for the big image).

Are there any official syntax definitions for such deep lists or this is something that I discovered totally by accident?
I use AsciiDoc with GitBook.

Many thanks!

Cheers,
Imre

Yes, it's possible to get more nesting levels by combining unordered and ordered lists (and even description lists). While that's something you can do, it's not really recommended to nest too deeply. Once you get past a half dozen levels of nesting, it's really not easy for the reader to understand what's going on. So it's a usability thing.

Thanks for replying Dan!
While I agree on usability, unfortunately there are cases when we cannot avoid nesting this deep (I tried). I just wanted to know if this is a known feature/option.

Thanks for clarifying this!

Yes, when we say "maximum depth", it means per type of list. So if you combine lists, then you can get more levels and that is supported. We might want to emphasize that in the docs. (Free free to suggest a PR).
