Is there a pastebin for asciidoctor?

egalitarian
I want to share asciidoctor documents with people.

But, raw asciidoctor documents are not very readable.
I want to show them HTML outputs.

A pastebin with asciidoctor HTML renderer would facilitate sharing asciidoctor documents with laymen.

Is there such a pastebin on the internet? I couldn't find one by searching "asciidoc pastebin"

That's exactly what docgist is.

See if that fits your requirements. I'd be happy to chat more about it.

p.s. docgist does need some updates, but we plan to get to that soon-ish.

Does it save new empty documents in my github account?

Also, the SSL certificate is not correct.

Currently, it saves new empty documents in firebase. This is one of the things we need to address because that's not very clear where they are saved. There's no guarantee those files will be preserved over the long run. (see https://github.com/asciidoctor/docgist/issues/30)

However, it's very *possible* to enhance docgist to write files to a git repository or GitHub gist (or even your own firebase account). All the groundwork is there. It just needs to be done.

Re: Is there a pastebin for asciidoctor?

I don't necessarily want long-term archival. But, I want to know garbage collection schedule.
I want to be able to anticipate how long a document is preserved.
Pastebins allow me to set garbage collection schedule when I submit documents.

We want that for docgist too. It was just overlooked by the previous maintainer. Right now, the files are kept indefinitely, but I don't have access to the firebase account that's holding them, so I can't guarantee it. We just need to transfer ownership over to the Asciidoctor project so that we can add some sort of guarantee. We should use https://github.com/asciidoctor/docgist/issues/30 to track that work. Clearly this was an oversight, but all we can do at this point is take steps to correct it.

Re: Is there a pastebin for asciidoctor?

https://gist.asciidoctor.org stopped working. Any unmaintained software rots away eventually.

Here's the error message I got when I tried to open a new empty document on docgist.

{"error":{"code":"PROJECT_REQUIRES_IMPORT","statusCode":428,"message":"This Firebase project requires import into Google Cloud Platform to resume service.","details":"Visit the docs (https://firebase.google.com/support/guides/firebase-web#import_your_project_to_the_firebase_console) or reach out to Firebase support (https://firebase.google.com/support/contact/account-services/) for help. Without action, this project will be permanently deleted on Tuesday, May 15th, 2018."}}

I've been meaning to track this down for awhile, but it looks like time has caught up to me. The problem is that the person who set this up never transferred access to the Firebase account to me or the project and has since passed away. I will have to put in an inquiry to see if the information was transferred to a living relative. I can also see if Firebase is willing to migrate the account so that at least people can get in to backup any data stored there. I'll get the process started asap.

Technically, docgist still works, and we plan to migrate it to Asciidoctor 1.5.6. It's the integration with Firebase that is currently blocked. But I will do what I can to restore that part, at least for a provisional period (as I think it's time to reevaluate this strategy).

Meanwhile, I can just send emails containing adoc files to people and tell them to view adoc files on https://asciidoclive.com/
This will work for anyone who knows computers well enough to follow instructions.
