## Asciidoctor-latex error with `#`

If I put `#` into a asciidoc file and produce latex output, the result is \texttt{#} in the tex file. This seems to be producing an error: ! Illegal parameter number in definition of \reserved@a.                    } l.196 \texttt{#} If I remember correctly, # is a reserved character in tex and should be escaped like \#. I am not sure if I am supposed to escape the hash character in asciidoc. If so how can I do this? Also is this the preferred channel to post newbie questions? (As opposed to the chat room or the github issues list).
